Inspired by café-theaters we played on six Europe tours, Insight America set out to create a comfy hub for local writers, actors, and musicians to share good work, good talk and good food. The revived space offers plays, classes and live music, plus tasty fare days and eves, independent of show schedules.

We tore down the rickety old control booth to build a comfortable, efficient one with all new equipment:

FOR PATRONS

The cozy playhouse boasts a stylish café out front, to provide a more polished audience experience than other small theaters.

An extensive 2008-09 remodel added double glass doors, large windows and doubled interior space to liberate the old cramped, dark lobby. A landscaped hardwood deck covered the old cracked cement driveway. High-tech soundproofing entirely eliminated traffic noise that plagued performances. Even the restrooms are first class now.

With adjacent lot parking, and within walking distance for many Sunset Junction, Los Feliz, Franklin Hills and Silver Lake residents, the new facility seeks to support a sense of community.

FOR PERFORMERS

The newly flexible "black box" seats up to 80, in various layouts.

ˇ         Room measures about 33 by 25 feet.

ˇ         Playing area averages about 18 by 20 feet depending on where you put the seats.  

ˇ         Roomy backstage offers up to three dressing rooms as needed.

ˇ         Offstage space ample for building and storing sets.
